Dekoron-Unitherm

• Part of the $7 billion Marmon Group which is a Div. Of Berkshire Hathaway

• Over 50 years history as the world leader in the design & manufacture of pre-insulated tubing and small bore piping

• Pre-insulated tubing and pipe are our only business

Page 3: Cryogenic insulated and jacketed tubing and pipe

Our 6200 Cryotube Series

• Through the use of proprietary aerogel insulation materials, Dekoron Unitherm’s 6200 Cryotube system requires on average 70% less space than traditional PIR foam pre-insulated pipe. This reduction in OD improves

• Loading in pipe racks• Relieves congestion in

equipment skids • Reduces the size of wall

penetrations

Features & Benefits when compared to PIR foam

• Reduced• OD – 50% to 70%• Weight - 30% to 50%

• Lower• Heat gain • ASTM E-96 water vapor

transmission rate – 0.00perm• ASTM E-84 flame spread &

smoke generation – Class “A”

• Hydrophobic insulation

6200 Cryotube SeriesPre-insulated Piping

Offers major Advantages over X-50 PIR Foam & Field Fabrication for 1/2” thru 3” cryogenic pipe sizes

• Available in stainless & copper in coils and sticks

• Lower Installed Cost• by reducing waste• by greatly reducing field labor

• Pre-Engineered System• Has more efficient heat transfer• Has consistent thermal characteristics

• Improved Scheduling• By reducing craft interference• By greatly reducing or eliminating the

need for an insulation contractor• Maintenance Free

Heat Gain & Condensation Control Verification

• A 20 foot section of 6200 Cryotube was designed & fabricated using 3E-Plus Thermal Modeling Software published by NAIMA.

• Thermal properties of the Cryogel Z insulation system are as follows.

Heat Gain & Condensation Test Results

• Test results were within 1.8°F of the values predicted by 3-E Plus, thereby validating this modeling program for calculating Heat Gain & Condensation control of the 6200 Cryotube system

• The heat loss efficiency of 1” of 6200 Cryotube is equal to 4.43” of urethane foam

• 3-E Plus is available free from the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association at

What Is An Aerogel Insulation

• Aerogels are nanoporous solids invented in the 1930’s

• Aerogels are created when silica is gelled in a solvent• When the solvent is removed, what remains is “puffed-up

sand”, with up to 99% porosity• Nanoporosity slows heat and mass transport, providing record-low

thermal conductivity

• Twin innovations moved aerogels from lab curiosity to high-volume industrial product

• Supercritical CO2 extraction process reduces cycle time from months to hours

• Casting the wet gel into a fibrous batting provides mechanical integrity

Resists the Enemies of Traditional InsulationWater, Heat, and Abuse

Water RepellantAerogel's are hydrophobic, they will not wick or

allow water to pass through itDamage Tolerant

Cryogel and Pyrogel easily withstand most impact or compressive loading events (e.g.,

footfalls, tool strike), and will spring back to the original performance even at loads

> 100 psi. Further, because there is no brittle failure mechanism (its a flexible blanket), damage

remains local and will not propagate.

Thermally Stable Aerogel’s products do not use organic

binders, so will not crumble or sag in hot

service.

Heath and Safety Aspects of Aerogel Insulation

• Aerogels are an amorphous (non-crystalline) silica with 97% of particles larger than 45m

• Only the pores are nano-scale (~0.01 m)• Aerogel particles are much larger

• Amorphous silica has been studied by OSHA, EPA, and the OECD, concluding:

• “Demonstrated lack of toxicity.• “Is not expected to pose a carcinogenic risk.”• “Silica’s are inert when ingested, and unlikely to be absorbed

through the skin.”• “No concerns for human health.”

• Typical dust loading in fab-shop is <5 mg/m3

• OSHA limit for amorphous silica is 80 mg/m3
