Editing and Transitions

Throughout editing my media product, I gained an understanding of loads of editing techniques to create meaning and make my trailer effective. I used many different transitions in my trailer to emphasise specific moments or objects to make it stand out. I used Adobe premier pro to edit my trailer and input different transitions to my clips.

Jump cut and Flashbacks

I used a jump cut to create discontinuity in the trailer. A jump cut is showing a clip in the present and then advancing further in the future with the next shot. This can make the audience feel like they have jumped into the future as the clip has advanced.I used a flashback to show a moment that had happened in the protagonists past. This implies to the audience about the characters early life and helps them to get a connection with the character.

Montage Editing and Visual Effects

Montage editing is important to a trailer. This shows unconnected clips to create meaning. By doing this it shows different parts of the films to the audience. This creates meaning throughout the trailer.

I used an effect called visual effects to emphasise a specific object such as the ring we used. This signified our antagonist and helped the audience to recognise him easier. Visual effects has helped create meaning in our trailer.

Dip to black and Film dissolve

I used the dip to black transition a lot in my media product. This was effective when changing to show a different location. This was one of my favourite transitions as it give a tense ending to the clip.

Film dissolve is a transition that makes the last clip merge with the next clip. This was a nice changeover when showing the same character changing places. I liked this transition as it blended the clips and was very effective.

Video Effects

When looking at different effects, I found loads on Adobe Premier pro. I used an effect called shadow which helped create a darker environment for out antagonist. This helped him look more dangerous and threatening. I also changed the speed duration on some clips to speed them up or slow them down to emphasise a specific moment. For example I used slow motion on a fight scene to emphasise the punch and to make the moment exaggerated. A different effect I used was posterize. I used this on a clip of the two agents car which give them a glow and made them stand out.
