EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This proposal presents that Entrepreneurs invest in PointLocker, a smart tiny bluetooth

tracker that finds everything in seconds. This will help users save time in searching for their

belongings. According to the Newsweek, an Average Americans spends 55 minutes a day

(roughly 12 days a year) looking for their belongings. An average person loses over $95.78

worth of belongings every year, which accounts for billions being cost all over the world.

Across 5 countries surveyed, there’s a loss of more than $47 billion every year. But this number

doesn't take into account the emotional value attached to the lost items. US News and World

reports state that 1 out of 5 Americans want to be better organized. One common theme behind

all these facts is the misplacement of items and tracking them. There have been applications in

the market that let user track their items within a smaller range but none of them scale up to

an entire city or country. The PointLocker will be available for purchase via the online stores

while the application will be available to the users via Apple App Store and can be downloaded

onto a iPhone/iPod/Mac/Window/Android users. This application will be available on App

Stores for free of cost while the PointLocker can be purchased for $25 each. After 9 months, we

would breakeven.

INTRODUCTION

What is PointLocker:

PointLocker is an smart bluetooth tracker that is in a square shape and can be placed

behind or along with any valuable items like phone, wallet, laptop. PointLocker requires the

download of an application via the AppStore in order to track items. This application would

be installed on phones and can be accessed via the web browser as well. This application will

interact with the PointLocker and track the location of the items. In case a user wants to track

the location of the item, the application can be opened and a sound would be played on the

PointLocker attached to the item for the user to easily track it down.

Why PointLocker:

To sell any product, there has to be financial value and the psychological value of

customer satisfaction associated with it. In a lifetime the average person spends about 153 days

looking for misplaced possessions and valuables. Our product will provide a way for a user to

cut down on the number of hours or days lost in finding for their valuables. There are about

60% of users that misplaced their belongings outside their homes. Tracking belongings

misplaced outside can get hard and impossible at times as the user is not sure about the

locations they must have dropped their belongings at. PointLocker will help users track items

lost outside their homes as well by giving them a dynamic feed of locations that the item is

currently at. Based on the psychological, scientific, and financial data, our solution of

combining PointLocker with an Application based tracking makes sense. We are confident that

our product PointLocker will be a sure success in the application and consumer market.

PointLocker Objectives:

Our motto is loosing less of everything including time. With that objective in mind, we

will be catering our product, PointLocker, to all users who loose track of their items and want

to cut down time in searching for their valuables. Another important objective of PointLocker

is that it will show you the exact position on map indicating its last known position and time.

An item can be tracked within a smaller range by its sound. PointLocker batteries last for an

extended 2 year lifetime, after which the PointLocker will be replaced by us at a fraction of the

cost. The PointLocker is water resistant to IP5 standard. PointLocker has no distance limitation

as when the items can be located by different users.

Page 5: Point locker

POINTLOCKER PROJECT PLAN

POINT LOCKER - NEVER LOSE A THING 5

PointLocker Market:

There are several applications on the market that are available for the user to track

his/her valuables but all these applications can track items in a limited range. Our primary

focus is to attract more customer base with the new and superior functionalities of being able

to track a lost item all over the world along with a longer battery life. Bar chart shows that

number of users downloading Applications from AppStore are increasing by the year:

Graph 1: PointLocker Market

From the above chart, it can be deducted that we have a vast market of users that use

iPhone/Android application stores. There were 100 billion downloads made as of June’15. Our

market research shows that there was an increase of 20% from 2015 to 2016 in the number of

users downloading applications to track user items. As a result of all the above market facts,

we recommend that we sell PointLocker to the above stated market for free and make money

by combining the PointLocker pricing at $25 and application for free.

Project Work Breakdown Structure

Fig 2: Work Breakdown Structure

Project work breakdown structure is as shown related to seven categories which are interrelated to each other. Such breakdown is easy to manage and track for the program and project manager. WBS helps manager to focus on all different aspect of works and task. WBS helps project manager to schedule according to tasks, milestones and related works. In this WBS we decided to breakdown each major activity into subtask and milestones which provides detail understanding of critical task and scheduling requirement. WBS is unique method to understand full project plan and it helps to manage it according to subproject task. We have developed PointLocker scheduling according to this WBS as in next topic.

Risks and Risk Management

PointLocker Risk Management

1. Identify all risks, internal (company development), competitors and external (customers)

2. Risk management is the iterative approach to identifying, assessing, and prioritizing of

risks followed by coordinated and economical application of resources to minimize and

monitor the probability or impact of unfortunate events.

3. Its main goal is to ensure that uncertainty doesn't deflect the endeavor from the business

goals.

Fig 5 : Risk

Risk Impact Analysis

It has 2 dimensions:

1. Probability of occurrence

2. Impact of the event

These two measures are used to plot the risk on

the chart below. This gives a quick, clear view of

the priority that we need to give to each.

Change Management Plan

PointLocker Change Management Plan

PointLocker Change Control Board (CCB)

In software development, a Change Control Board (CCB) or Software Change Control

Board (SCCB) is a committee that makes decisions.

In this project any change proposed by any team can cause major changes in other factors

such as change in software requirement can leads to more cost and risk. CCB works as a

decision authority for change management plan.

• Filtering changes

• Managing changes and the change process

• Reviewing and closing of Requests for Change

• Management reporting and providing management information

The PointLocker CCB team would be responsible for review and evaluation of change

request which is proposed by the software management team. Approving changes is

dependent on study and research by CCB over the change and its impact on the overall

project. Mostly CCB will focus on change impact for cost, quality, time and profit. If CCB

regards the changes in management and software to be beneficial to the project then the team

gets a green signal.

The PointLocker team will initially schedule development and testing as 90 days of work in

which software team can make changes according to requirement and pass a change request

to CCB.

CCB teams work in parallel with development, testing phase and review changes with

subject matter experts. CCB is responsible for scheduling meetings with the software team,

management team and marketing team in consideration of time limit. Also CCB has to

communicate with respective teams about approved changes in scheduling, management

and marketing. CCB should consider customer in the decision of approving changes.

Page 29: Point locker

POINTLOCKER PROJECT PLAN

POINT LOCKER - NEVER LOSE A THING 29

In this project following are the some areas where change in management plan is expected.

1. Software Development: Mainly in developing application

2. Marketing: Marketing teams can change management plan for particular target customer

and clients.
