IntroductionDrilling machine

The drilling machine is one of the most important machine tools in a workshop.

In a drilling machine holes may be drilled quickly and at a low cost.

The hole is generated by the rotating edge of cutting tool is known as “drill”.

Holes were drilled by the Egyptians in 1200 B.C. about 3000 years ago by bow drills.

The bow drill is the mother of present day metal cutting drilling machine.

Boring machineThe boring machine is one of the most versatile machine tools used to bore holes in large and heavy parts like as engine frames , steam engine cylinders, machine housings , etc.

Which are practically impossible to hold and rotate in an engine lathe or a drilling machine.

Purpose & Applications

Drilling machine In general case drilling machines used to drill holes in light weight and small parts like small metal round bars , small metal sheets , small parts of machines , etc.

Boring machine But, here boring machines used to bore holes in large and heavy parts like engine frames , steam engine cylinders , machine housings , etc. Now day we can perform various operations like screw cutting , turning ,gear cutting on boring machine by help of simple attachments.

Precision boring machine The precision boring machine uses single point tools to machine surfaces rapidly and accurately. Cemented carbide and diamond tipped single point tools are operated at a very high cutting speed to produce accurately sized holes with a fine surface finish. The feeding movement may be provided by tool or by the work. The machine may be vertical or horizontal type.

Horizontal boring machine can be able to held heavy , irregular, unsymmetrical or bulky workpieces.
