SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

All operators must read, understand and comply with all warnings and operating

instructions provided in this presentation, on the safety slip supplied with the brush, on the brush and those instructions provided with the power tool before using a brush

INITIAL INSPECTION

• Check every brush when removed from the box• Don’t use if rusted or damaged

(damages or distortion of brush wires can cause imbalance and vibration while working)

• Don’t use a brush that has been already used unless the state of the brush is known

STORAGE & HANDLING

Brushes should be stored and kept in their original boxes, not exposed to heat, acids, dust, fumes, liquids and high humidity since this can cause deterioration and premature failure

WORKING FIELD

SUCTION + VENTILATION

• Brushing can produce powder and fumes →Provide proper suction systems and/or ventilation when working in a confined space

• Never work in ATEX classified areas(explosive atmosphere)

WORKING FIELD

• Use a carbon steel brush for carbon steel and a stainless steel brush on stainless steel or aluminum

• If you use a carbon steel brush on stainless, the carbon steel from the wire brush will start to contaminate the stainless steel and will cause oxidation and rust

• A stainless steel brush can be used on carbon steel, but then it should not be used for stainless steel

WORKING PRESSURE

• Performance and safety can be compromised if the working tool has pressures from the sides and not on the front face (tangential to the brush rotating direction). This can cause the power brush to damage and eventually break

✓ X• Avoid excessive brush pressure, it will cause wire bending and breakage, more heat and a decrease in brush life ✓

USER’S SAFETY

In brushing operations the material being removed (burrs, scales, slags) + the wire brush tips lost will fly off the tool with high speed causing potential injury.Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn by the brush operator and by others in the work area. Certain brushing operations may require an enclosure and a special protection to isolate the operation from other personnel.

Safety glasses and full face shields must be worn by users and others in the area.

Persons within 15 m (= 50 ft) may be within danger zone

Proper hearing protection or ear plugs must be worn in noisy areas

MAINTENANCE + SAFETY GUARD

• Always maintain and check the machine/power tool conditions to guarantee safe brushing conditions

• Tool guards must be kept in place at all times

POWER TOOL CONDITIONS

MAX RPM

• Observe all speed restrictions. Maximum Safe Free Speed (MSFS) or Maximum RPM

• MAX RPM value is not the ideal working speed!• Make sure the speed of the grinder does not exceed

the maximum operating speed of the wire brush

BRUSH MOUNTING

• Check that brush arbor hole and spindle diameter are the same to ensure a perfect fit

• Always check nut tightening

• Don’t use brushes larger than the machine was designed for

BRUSH MOUNTING

• End brushes with shaft: the overhang from the tool should be minimized by clamping on as much of the straight portion of the stem as possible

• The collet/chuck shouldn’t clamp on the radius at the base of the shank to insure secure holding before use

Brushes are mainly made of metal so they are recyclable. After use do not release to the environment but dispose in accordance to local regulationsProduct carton boxes are fully recyclable
