Adrian Lyne – Fatal Attraction
Background and careerAdrian Lyne was born on the 4th March 1941 in Peterborough then in Northamptonshire, England. He is an English filmmaker and producer. He was educated at Highgate school, after this he began working in film after a number of TV commercials. The first thing he directed was a music video called Maniac which was the theme song from a film called Flashdance but he received his first nomination for Academy Award for best director in the film Fatal Attraction . After his music video in the film Flashdance, he was later hired to become director of the film Nine 1/2 weeks in 1986. Here is a list of the other films he directed throughout his career.

He is also currently directing and a co-writer in the film Back roads which is going to be released in 2012.
Mise en sceneCostumes – Man in a suit , perhaps a business man, probably wealthy. Others dressed normally.
Lighting – Natural at scene of crash, when he visits her it is dark which indicates something may happen or he may attempt to hurt her.
Actors - Worried face when she’s about to crash, but the boy is smiling on the rollercoaster, contrast between the two scenes. Then serious face on man when he’s about to walk through the door, indicating time for action.
Make up – Natural
Props – Car crashes into the back of another, then knife used to try and stab the man by the woman. Both props representing danger.
Setting – 4 different setting, car on the street, roller coaster, hospital then crazy woman's house.
Camera angles
Close up – Shown on the boys face and the other woman driving the car to show the relationship. This shot also shows the emotion and expression.
Long shot – On man to show what he is wearing. And what he looks like.
Low angle shot – When he’s about to walk through the door, shows the seriousness on his face.
Two shot – When they are both fighting.
Sound
Diagetic – Natural music, sound of the car crash, and roller coaster
Selective – Sound of the woman when she beeps her car horn. Coughing also exaggerated after the strangle, to try and tell the audience that she struggling for air.
Music is slow when they are talking but then speeds up again when they start fighting , creates atmosphere and tension.
EditingFast paced throughout the action scene .
When he is strangling her everything slows down, it then gets quicker when she attempts to stab him.
Jump cut – When it cuts from her being in the car to the boy being on the rollercoaster.
Reaction shot – When she runs at him with the knife.
Matched cut – When they switch from boy on rollercoaster to women in car
