Biografía La banda se formó en Andover, MA en los meses finales del 2005, cuando el vocalista
Martin Johnson, - conocido anteriormente por el grupo de Massachussets, The Drive -escribió un puñado de canciones que quería grabar. Reclutó al bajista Bryan Donahue y al baterista Paul Di Giovanni, con quién había grabado un demo breve, para completar la canción. Algunos demos son de "Free", "If You Could See Me Now", "The Only Way That I Know How To Feel", y otros. Algunos meses después, los dos descubrieron que eran primos lejanos. El nombre fue luego cambiado a Boys Like Girls.
El cuarteto pronto abrió una cuenta de PureVolume para mostrar su música, y subieron un demo de "The Great Escape" y una versión acústica de "Thunder". Al final de año, la banda había llegado al puesto número uno en la lista Top Unsigned Artist y dentro de unos meses habían terminado giras a nivel nacional con Cute Is What We Aim For, Hit the Lights, All Time Low y Butch Walker.
Eventualmente en el 2006, la banda fue escuchado por el agente Matt Galle y el productor Matt Squire, quién contactó a la banda sobre una colaboración futura. Con su apoyo completo, Boys Like Girls se embarcaron en su primer gira internacional con A Thorn forEvery Heart, Hit the Lights y Keating a finales de febrero del 2006. Siguiente al mes siguiente, la banda inmediatamente entró al estudio de grabación con Squire para grabar su álbum debut para Columbia Records/Red Ink.
