Carvings

Carvings from Antler, Stone and Wood were and still are the main media to share our legends, stories and hidden messages with to

the viewer. Like in painting, our carvings incorporate the everything is a canvas inside a canvas concept. That is unique only among our

artwork as a native people.

Presentation Summary My People have been painting since we were first Created and placed upon the face of Mother Earth over 100,000 years ago. Many early paintings appear on old artifacts collected by interested people and museums the world over. Examples of early paintingby my people also exists on the side of rock walls or cliff's as what we term as petroglyph's or early rock paintings by prehistoric man, my people have been on Turtle Island since time of humans began, we are the first people, we are still herewe are not prehistoric. My style of artwork has it's roots in those origins as I have seenmany rock paintings traveling the great lakes and rivers by canoe as a child. Those oldrock paintings were done by my ancestors as I was told, those rock paintings have sincethen held my fascination. In that spirit I have presented to you, My Woodland Spiritual Art. Thank you for your valuable time and interest.
