Background

Empire creates movies, TV shows, magazines and games. Their magazines focus mainly on movies. They will create reviews, have their own special features as

well as having articles from other sources in their magazine.

They hold their own annual awards which is sponsored by Sony

As you can see below all the mastheads are in red to allow them to stand out amongst any of the other features on the magazine. In addition to this there is usually a model in the way of the masthead bringing our attention to the person on the front cover as this is one of the factors that will determine whether the customer picks up the magazine or not.

COVERLINE

SAs well as the image the text will dominate most of the space on the front cover giving the customer hints as to what is in the magazine. Most of the text will be in big and bold writing. This will be the information that the editor will want to audience to see first and will therefore attract them making them purchase it.In addition to this when they are used they are mainly placed to the side so as not to distract the viewer from the cover image

FEATURESEmpire magazine will have a few features on their front covers. They do this by using stickers to put messages across to the buyer. This will hold information that the magazine does not want to go amiss, or get lost in the coverlines. It will usually contain plugs to further incentivise the customer to buy the magazine. Some examples will include exclusive interviews, secrets about new movies coming out and glimpses into up coming events and movies

IMAGE

The main image will probably be the most important aspect of the cover as it will be the thing that will grab the customers attention. This means that the image must be of high quality and be of something that will be easily recognised. It is for this reason that Empire will use images of actors in their roles from movies. Not only does this represent them well as their magazines are on movies but it makes for a grander image and one that people will recognise easier then the actors in plain clothes. Costume and make up makes the context all the more relatable
