Hard Candy We Were heavily inspired by the interactive dialogue that occurred in hard candy and we decided to incorporate that element into our sequence.

Page 7: Evaluation questions part 1

Uses of Technology ✔

We Developed this convention as we used a mobile phone as the use of technology instead of an chat room on the internet. We Felt that the phone was more of an personal approach to the character that was receiving the messages and pictures.

Page 8: Evaluation questions part 1

Scream We Were heavily inspired by the Hidden Identity that occurred in Scream and we decided to incorporate that element into our sequence.

Page 9: Evaluation questions part 1

Hidden Identity ✔

We Challenged this convention as we didn't use a mask which would entirely block the killer/kidnapper’s identity. However we did have the villain in dark clothes with a hood up with is a modern way that identity is hidden.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Page 11: Evaluation questions part 1

Crime at the centre of the narrative ✔

We Developed the convention of crime being at the centre of the narrative by showing a newspaper article that was in the process of being made by our main character we did not show the article being made we show the main crime. We also decided to challenge the way the crime was presented as we showed this on a computer screen. Whereas Chainsaw Massacre showed written.

2. How does your media product (opening sequence) represent particular social

groups?

Page 14: Evaluation questions part 1

Different Social Groups

Page 15: Evaluation questions part 1

Who is being represented? A young successful woman who is doing quite well with her life

and career as a Journalist. She sometimes comes across as a bit of a nerd.

WHY?An intelligent, single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession.

We felt that a woman suited the role more than a male. (Even though males are represented as nerds usually)

We wanted to get a reaction from the audience.

1

Page 16: Evaluation questions part 1

What type of social groups are you representing?

The social group we are representing is a Nerd/Smart girl.

Why?

We wanted to show through our opening sequence that woman shouldn’t always be represented as vulnerable, inferior and inarticulate.

We challenged conventions of thriller movies by instead of using a uneducated blond woman.

We used a successful educated young lady.

Supposed to films like “Scream” when she's on the phone while talking to her stalker in a casual manner.

We used a form of technology to show that a vengeful killer on the loose is after her. Via Text and images.

Is it a stereotypical convention? Why?5

No it is not a stereotypical convention we avoided the ditsy like character…

We avoided bright colours

• She never escapes death.

• She’s usually a very easy target

• Her death is usually graphic

Page 22: Evaluation questions part 1

9

Why we represented this social group.

We didn’t want to be too stereotypical.

Challenged that we could change up the character.

Wanted to show that NOT only ditsy characters are targets of brutal attacks or deaths at home.
