Note : Focus on one or two songs at the most.Too many songs at a time, distract youfrom achieving your objective 4. Pinpoint the key concepts Review your lesson plan for the day and pinpointthe key concepts you wish to teach. This can be anything as specific as "progressiveverb conjugations" to something more general, such as "improve conversation skills.Good morning..Good morning.Good morning to you..Good morningGood morning. And how do you do? 5. Decide Decide whether you wish to incorporate songsthat :a) students will sing (best for working on verbalskills),b) or listen to (better for listening skills),c) or a combination of both. 6. Select your song Select songs from your teaching materials, orcreate your own. Choose a well-known song with a simple melody, such as "Mary Had a Little Lamb" or "Three BlindMice," Write your own words, incorporating the conceptyou wish to enforce.* Repetition is the key, so make your songs simpleand repetitive, focusing on the skill or skills youwish to work on in your lesson. 7. Listen Have students listen to the songs at least oncebefore attempting to sing. Play or model the song.* Review the lyrics. 8. Intersperse the songs throughout thelesson Intersperse the songs throughout the lesson. Forexample, for every five minutes you spendlecturing, spend one minute listening or singing.* help students remember key concepts,* help to "wake up" the class and* ensure everyone is paying attention. 9. Songs can wake himup^_^ 10. Choose popular songs Choose popular songs (rather than nurseryrhymes) and focus more on listening. For example, if students are studying thechallenging concept of phrasal verbs, providethem with a lyrics sheet with words to a well-known song and have them highlight all thephrasal verbs they see. Play the song, then discuss how those verbswere used in context to see if students candiscern the meaning. Play the song again to help reinforce how thosephrasal verbs were used, which will help thestudents remember. 11. Decide the medium Use a disc player or other device to play the songin class, or sing it yourself! Provide the students with a written copy of thewords of the song to read along. (for advancedstudents) Bring your own instrument!(to attract childrens attention) 12. Provide questions(for advanced students) Provide a list of questions that you will be looking at,regarding the song(s). Read these questions to the class before playingthe song. Doing this will help your students learn more bypreparing their minds for what to listen to, makingthem targeted listeners. 13. Reinforce concepts When teaching children, you may use songs overand over again to reinforce the concepts. Repetition, repetition, repetition! 14. Move!!!! Action songs can be really appealing to children. So, choose your songs properly. Try to use songs which incorporate movements.Costumes can be veryuseful 15.
