Biography (a fewfun facts):

- grew up as a farm boy,constantly moving due to hisfather’s business failures.

- was an apprentice to a candymaker in Lancaster, PA

- started his own company in1876, but it failed within sixyears.

- moved to Denver, worked witha confectioner, and discoveredthe secret to makingcaramels….fresh milk.

- failed at his second attempt at acandy company, leaving himpenniless at 28.

The Lancaster Caramel Company• After two failures, Milton tried

one more time to successfullylaunch a candy company,convincing his mother and aformer employee to back himfinancially.

• In the late 1800’s, Miltonfinally struck gold. TheLancaster Caramel Companyshipped to places all over theU.S. and Europe, and was oneof the leading manufacturersof caramel.

• He sold his caramel company for$1 million, and used the money topurchase his old home (whichbecame the chocolate factory).
