Production LogMagazine & Poster

• I started off my magazine production by doing a brief research on magazines as I already had knowledge of designing magazine covers through my AS production work.

• I have done some brief research on Google as well as some other websites to do with magazine. I am researching more into the genre of my film for my magazine rather than the conventions of a magazine as they are already clear to me. I am using power point presentation to do a brief but detailed analysis of some magazines I have researched that have a relation to my genre. I have also visited Google and researched on examples of magazines that are professional and may relate to the genre of my film.

• As I have been using Adobe Photoshop for years I am quite experienced at it so editing my pictures in it wasn’t hard at all and was one of the most comfortable tasks to do during my process. However using In Design was a bit challenging as I have only used it once which was last year in my AS productions work so my experience is not as much. On the other hand in general I have a lot of experience in editing photo software so it is easy for me to catch on when using the software.

• Thinking of an institution name for my magazine was a situation where I tried to adapt the name to the genre also as it was just a one off on this occasion. I first chose the name ‘Total flick’ and then soon after a bit of feedback changed it to ‘Total Chaos’ as it represents my target audience and genre more.

• I used PhotoImpact along with Adobe Photoshop to edit the pictures that I had taken and I had to choose from a range of images in which pose or shot size would be the most effective.

• I changed the colour of my background on many occasions as I tried to represent my genre and audience and feedback through sending a quick shot of the pending magazine through instant messaging where I had many opinions and used the colour which was rated the most.

• I started off my film poster by doing researching in depth the common conventions of a film poster when promoting a film. So I researched a lot of examples of these and analysed a few film posters specifically from the same genre or subgenre of mine. One thing I noticed about film posters was that they were all unique in their own way representing their own film.

• When researching this I had to think about how I was going to be creative and make my one stand out and appeal to my audience. I also read newspapers almost every day leading up to the production stages of my film poster creation. I did this because newspapers often contained multiple film posters promoting the most current films on the commercial scene. I had to get some inspiration from these as I like the modern appeal they had which is what would be attractive to my target audience.

• For my image on my poster I had screen grabbed some of my footage and copy and pasted it into Photoshop where I edited the images to be imported into my poster production. I had also taken one picture professionally and edited this in Photoshop to import into my film poster. I had also darkened the image to add more effect to my film poster.

• I made sure my text was representing my genre in every way, so font was an important part of it so the text that I used was Coalition which was more effective than my original text which was called ‘Consolas’

• To follow conventions my credits had to be in a specific font of writing which make my film poster look more professional. It took me a bit of research to find out what the text was as I didn’t know what it was called, I soon found it and it was based on the name ‘Ultra’. I downloaded the font using zip so I could use it on my system.

• To design my film poster; I used three different editing software to create the final product. I first of all used adobe Photoshop to edit all my pictures and PhotoImpact to give my poster some effects and finally In Design to give bring everything together and give it that final touch.
