About the Product:

TrueSpirit is a shopping website for parents of children in schools that require student uniforms, and for administrators of those schools. It offers modern takes on classic uniform styles, a robust yet easy-to-use system for administrators to curate their own collections and create web portals for their schools, and unlike other uniform sales sites, TrueSpirit creates custom item checklists to give parents unprecedented efficiency and confidence in their shopping.

About the Project: TrueSpirit is a new (fake) start-up based in the Bay Area. The TrueSpirit one man team was tasked with creating an appropriate experience for the target customers that could be delivered via Web, with an eye toward future mobile adoption.

The team was given the constraint of targeting the Web as the primary delivery channel.

Research

Method: Competitive analysis

Findings:There are lots of school uniform e-commerce sites out there, but the “uniform” part is usually an afterthought. Few have user flows or feature sets specifically designed around the needs of parents who need an efficient shopping tool for this purpose. Instead, general clothing sites add in sections for school uniforms without changing much else.

Opportunities Identified: Design a site from the ground-up around the needs of busy parents. Alleviate confusion around ordering the right items by having a persistent item checklist.

Iterations

Design process involved initial high-level user flows, site maps, and lots of sketching.

Iterations focused on refining the Checklist as the central feature of the site, and ensuring that the distinction between the Checklist and the Shopping Bag remained clear.
