Where to camp for Le Tour de France Yorkshire? As anticipation grows in advance of the Tour De France coming to England this summer, everyone is beginning to consider their plans on where they will be watching the race. Arguably the place to watch the Tour will be in Yorkshire on Stage 2 on Sunday 6th July 2014 when the riders tackle the iconic climb of Holme Moss near Holmfirth. Holme Moss is one of England’s best known bicycle ascents, and has acquired a reputation as among the country’s more difficult climbs. It has often been used for domestic competition in British road cycling. Set against the backdrop of stunning scenery, the climb is 4.7km long with steep ramps to slow down the riders so there should be ample opportunity to get a good view of the race with numerous viewing points along the climb. The Caravan is expected around 13.00 hrs with the riders tackling the climb around 14.45 hrs. Huge crowds are expected and the atmosphere on Cote de Holme Moss is expected to rival Alpe d’Huez so an unforgettable experience is guaranteed. Given the road closures in the area, spectators are being advised to arrive in the days before the race. The big question is where to stay ? With accommodation close to the route fully booked months ago, the solution is to stay at one of the many campsites near Holmfirth. We would recommend The Camp on Holme Moss as a great base for the weekend. It is in an excellent location on the edge of the Holme Moss plateau enabling visitors to walk to the summit. Situated on Coddy’s Farm, the site has stunning views and Holmbridge village and Holmfirth itself are also within walking distance so there will be no need to drive during the weekend.

Situated on Coddy’s Farm, the site has stunning views and Holmbridge village and Holmfirth itself are also within walking distance so there will be no need to drive during the weekend.Another big advantage of this campsite are the large pitches enabling you to park your car right by your tent. Motorhomes and Caravans are also welcomed. Staff will be on site 24 hours a days and there is also secure storage facilities for those with bikes.

At £45 per adult for the whole weekend, we found this campsite to be favourably priced compared to some of the others in the area. Under 16′s go completely free.
