We are very saddened to learn that a female farmer shot dead and several others injured for

protecting their own land in "Let Pa Daung", Sagaing, Burma where their lands were

forcefully confiscated by Burmese junta for the joint venture copper mining project between

China's Wanbao company and Burma's the Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings (UMEH)

which is one of the top 5 largest corporations in Burma run by the Burmese military (through

the Ministry of Defence). We unequivocally denounce such kind of oppressive and excessive

action taken on civilians by police force. We demand Burmese government to stop

oppressing civilians and demand to practice ultimate restraint handling disputes. We call for

Burmese government to investigate the incident impartially and independently and held

accountable for anyone responsible for the killing and injuring of farmers.
