About Vietnam Causes

When: The Vietnam Causes website was launched in November 2013.

Why: To facilitate two-way information sharing among the philanthropic community and the local not-for-profit initiatives they support.

How: Visitors can search for a nonprofit by name, cause and location and learn ways to engage.

Objectives

• Help individuals/companies participating in the event to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to undertake a more strategic approach to giving in Vietnam.

• Promote engagement on the Vietnam Causes website, in order to share information that will help other individuals/companies to make thoughtful giving decisions.

8:00 – 9:00 Orientation: Form Teams, Review Team Scenario and Assign Roles to Team Members

9:00 – 9:20 Decipher first clue and travel to first NPO

9:20 – 10:20 Meet with NPO and complete missions

10:20 – 10:40 Decipher first clue and travel to first NPO

10:40 – 11:40 Meet with NPO and complete missions

11:40 – Noon Return to Meeting Room

12:00 – 1:00 Lunch (complete team assignments first!)

1:00 – 2:00 Group Debrief & Reflection

Corporate Community Engagement Strategy

• Start with a specific theme(s) that may be of interest to the company/friends.

• Start with any criteria you have for a partner (e.g., location, volunteer opportunities, track record, number of staff...)

• Consider resources your company/friends have to offer.

LIN works with our partners to design a unique scenario(s) that can be used to engage all team members in the event. For example:

What do you need to prepare?

Transportation: Motorbikes or Taxis Safety First: If you will go by motorbike, you must bring a helmet!

Each team needs at least one smartphone/IPAD (full battery)

Participants should wear casual clothes

Appreciation gifts for site visit hosts (e.g., company paraphernalia,

office supplies, fruits or goodie baskets)

Optional: Camera (if you like to take photos / good for PR)

Remember to have breakfast before you come

• How did the experience change or reinforce your perspective on the work of grassroots nonprofit organizations?

• Beyond funding, what other company resources could be employed to help one or more of the nonprofits visited achieve its goals? How?

Desired Outcomes

• 100% of participants learn about resources and gain experiences that will help them to make informed giving decisions (Tool: participant survey).

• 100% of participants will gain new knowledge and understanding about local nonprofits, their needs and challenges as well as opportunities to provide support (Tool: participant survey).

• 100% of participants contribute to raising awareness about local causes and local nonprofits addressing those causes (Tool: review of comments posted on the VietnamCauses website).
