Testing and Certifications

Before passing out and receiving certifications in any of the disciplines, teams must demonstrate the ability to pass the US Department of Justice (DOJ) Odor Recognition Proficiency Standard for Explosives Detection Canines, for example, as well as annually certify to the standards of the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) and N.O.R.T (National Odor Recognition Testing)

Team follow up testing is mandatory every six months to make sure teams are working properly, training regularly and maintaining skills. Yearly, re-certification is strongly suggested.

All teams that have passed out have free access to the ITAC website to be able to ask questions, share information and interact with other working teams.

ITAC is establishing a national association that encourages all handlers to be active members of the organization in order to remain abreast of new developments in the field.

Certifications are issued, jointly, by ITAC and the Punjab Home Guard together with a registration number archived in ITAC and PHG data bases.

Handler Evaluation

Upon arrival at ITAC, handlers receive orientation and an interview conducted by ITAC and PHG staff.

ITAC and PHG reserve the right to reject any candidate for training based on an evaluation that leads to an “Unfit for Training” status.

ITAC and PHG reserve the right to expel any candidate for disciplinary or other problems that disrupt the professional and regimental structure of ITAC and that interfere with the training of other candidates.
