Introduction

George Mathew, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician who has owned and operated Pacific Family & Internal Medicine since 2013. In addition to providing a full range of primary care and internal services to patients in and around Sequim, Washington, George Mathew, MD, gives back to the community by supporting local animal shelters.

The most direct method of supporting a local animal shelter is to provide a forever home to one of the shelter’s animals. Individuals who cannot afford the expense or time needed to take care of a pet full time can still contribute to an animal shelter.

Local Shelter

Spreading the word about the shelter or specific animals up for adoption is a great way to help. Modern technology has made shelter promotion easier than ever, with the Humane Society of the United States introducing an eye-catching graphic designed for easy sharing on Facebook and other social media platforms.

Conclusion

Volunteering is another key way in which individuals can contribute to their local shelter. Volunteer work can range from walking and cleaning animals and their habitats to providing the shelter with electrical and carpentry assistance. Many shelters also have clerical and legal needs. Younger volunteers may even get valuable experience they can use later in the field of animal care.
