1. Nursing research develops knowledge about health and promotion of health over the full lifespan, care of persons with health problems and disabilities and nursing actions to enhance the ability of individuals to respond effectively to actual or potential health problems.

1. Lamberstson suggests, “ the purpose of research is to discover answers to meaningful questions through the application of scientific procedures”.
2. Vreeland says broadly that we should think of the purpose of research in nursing as providing clues for our search for knowledge and understanding. i.e.,- discover new facts about known phenomenon.- find answers to problems which are only partially solved by existing methods and information
