EXAM SEASON Every exam season I come across hundreds
of distraught students and parents wanting tips and shortcuts for instant academic success.
This Presentation provides some basic tips that help in maximum utilization of brain and mind power.
1. BE A HORSE NOT A DONKEY Spending hours in-front of your books trying
to learn every single word can only lead to information overload and confusion.
Ask your teachers and seniors, about the most important sections in the syllabus. Strengthen that portion first and later move to others.
2. DON’T LISTEN TO YOUR FRIENDS
Believe it or not… 90% of your friends might be lying about what they have actually read.
They might be doing it to hide their own fears.
Don’t get tense by what they say, Don’t alter your study style because of what
they say. There are higher chances of success if you
concentrate and continue with your own study plan.
3. EAT… WELL!!! The body, brain and mind depend on energy
for optimum functioning. Food is the most natural, reliable and
accessible form of energy. Be careful on what you eat!!! – Food stuffs
with high fat content, carbohydrate content or aeration are more liable to induce sleep and decreased mental performance.
Eat small and nutritious meals every 2-3 hours.
If you feel confused on what to eat do consult a professional for adequate diet patterns.
4. SLEEP…WELL!!! What happens when you overload your
computer or your mobile with information, it crashes!!!
Similarly if you overload your brain with information and don’t give it adequate rest, its performance will decrease.
Don’t take too many small naps. Try for one long spell (6-7hr) and one short spell (20-30min) of sleep within a day.
5. LAUGH
If you don’t add sugar to tea, it won’t taste good.
Being serious all the time leads to increased frustrations and negativity, that eventually disturb the concentration and memory power.
6. ACCEPT REALITY Sachin Tendulkar is successful because he
knows his talent and his limits very well. He knows which ball he can hit and which not.
Always Be realistic in your self-evaluation. Everyone wants to be the topper. Everyone
dreams of top marks. 90% fail because they set too high expectations and get restless while failing to achieve them.
Always set goals and expectations which you can achieve.
7. THE ARJUN SYNDROME During the battle of Mahabharata, Arjun, the
greatest warriors of all, needed help to counter his mental restlessness and see his goal clearly.
Stress destroys body, brain and mind in many invisible ways.
If you are not able to handle to stress, consult your seniors, parents, teachers and if required a professional.
Today medical science provides lot of options to increase brain productivity when needed.
8. PARENTAL STRESS Many Parents get extremely stressed and
anxious about the performance of their wards. This stress compels them to overload the child
with emotional and educational emotions beyond his/her limit of tolerance. This might prove to be extremely destructive.
It might be good for parents to keep a check on their methods, expectations and their stress.
They might consult a teacher, fellow parents, or a professional for some guidance on the same.
Even though there are so many other topics I would like mention
that could help in increasing overall mind and brain
performance, this space doesn’t permit me.
