Page 1: Bending BWS primer

Learning to Bend wire

Purpose: To give you the skills and confidence

to make and use the Farrell Bent Wire

System

Page 2: Bending BWS primer

1) Unbend a paper clip...by hand

Page 3: Bending BWS primer

Unbend clip by plier

•Walk the plier around the curve to get a straight line

Page 4: Bending BWS primer

Extra-credit....re-bend the clip

(If you can do this, you’ll have all the plier skills you’ll need...)

Page 5: Bending BWS primer

Small Bends•Bend around the Round Beak•90o bend

Round Beak

Square Beak

Page 6: Bending BWS primer

Small Bends•Keep the second bend “on plane” (flat on the paper)

Page 7: Bending BWS primer

Small Bends•Do three more 90o bends, all on plane

Page 8: Bending BWS primer

Medium Bends•Use the second step of the loop forming plier, or the middle of the bird beak plier•180o bend, this time

Page 9: Bending BWS primer

Large Bends•Use the thickest part of the loop forming plier or the bottom of the bird beak•Alternate: Small 90o, Large 180o

Page 10: Bending BWS primer

Bend an Arch Form•Hollow Chop•“Spin” it

Page 11: Bending BWS primer

BWS loop•How many bends does this loop have?•What size are the bends?

Answer: Four

Small(90)Small(90) Medium(180)Large (180)

Page 12: Bending BWS primer

BWS Loop1)Make a small bend to 90 degrees 2)Make a Large bend 180 degrees. Keep the wire flat. 3)Make a small bend 90 degrees. Still flat.4)Make a Medium bend 180 degrees. 5)Voila! Your first BWS loop.

Bending an“Adapted” BWS

•Follows the contours of the rotated teeth•Contacts surfaces
