Do you see white chalk colored spots or streaks on the skin in the form of patches? Then these might be the signs of Vitiligo. They are spotted white areas wherein the pigmentation of the skin is lost. This condition arises when the pigment cells, also known as melonocytes, are destroyed leaving no melanin pigment under the skin.

It can be observed that these patches are in symmetry on the both sides. It is more prominent in people with dark skin. Between the ages of 10-30, this condition is seen in individuals. It is linked with autoimmunity and heredity. Certain diseases like thyroid problem, Addison’s disease, alopecia areata, diabetes, pernicious anemia and diabetes are known to lead to Vitiligo. The areas affected are generally face, hands, folds, wrists, and fingers. They generally develop around the moles.

Vitamin Supplements: Folic acid, Vitamin C and B12 regenerate the pigmentation of the skin. Hence taking supplements of the 100mcg of Vitamin B, 1000mcg of Vitamin B12, 400mcg of Folic acid and about 2000mcg of Vitamin C is advised on a daily basis for each individual.

Sunscreen: It is advised to wear a sunscreen protection of 30SPF or above daily to avoid Vitilgo and to the spots of depigmentation, if vitilgo is already present.
