Reliability Test

Hospital: Seoul National University, College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea Department of Medicine Laboratory

Title: Evaluation of Gluco-phone as a POCT GlucometerMD: Hyung-Doo Park, Kyoung Un Park, Junghan Song, and Jin Q KimYear: 2004

Background : To prevent complications of diabetes, diabetic patients should test blood glucoselevel frequently. In these days, glucometers are widely used for self-monitoring, and many kindsof products are introduced. We performed the present study to evaluate the performance of

glucophone (Healthpia,Co,Ltd.,Seoul,Korea) as a point-of-care testing glucometer.

Methods : Glucometers including glucophone and FinetestTM (Infopia Co. Ltd., Anyang, Korea)were evaluated for its precision, linearity, and accuracy. The interpersonal variation by differentoperators, reagent stability, comparison capillary blood with venous blood, and useracceptability were also evaluated.

Conclusions : Glucophone showed excellent precision, linearity, and correlation with thereference method. Since POCT glucometers are influenced by operator and multiple externalfactors, it is important that users recognize interfering factors and preservation conditions of teststrips. It is hoped that glucophone becomes a good POCT glucose monitoring tool byestablishing continuous quality control system and improved operation.
