The brainstorming process was actually pretty enlightening for me.

I really learned that I need to spend a lot more time and energy in the garden and working with plantsto develop the kind of homestead I would like to achieve. I was originally mostly excited about the prospectof getting some animals and starting to produce eggs and milk of some sort, but the brainstorming projectreally helped me see how much landscaping I would like to attempt and how a lot of the gardening will beso that the eventual animals will have something the graze on.

My homestead site is a great example of California native plant permaculture landscaping. The chickens and goatshave plenty of foliage to graze, and I’m producing fresh eggs and some milk. The new beehive is working out, and thebees seem to enjoy all of the flowers that are blooming and we are harvesting some honey.

The homestead site I will be using for this course is located in Southern California, and is owned by my parents.

There are currently some minor repairs being completed on the house, and then I will be moving onto the property.

The property is about 2 2/3 acres, and there are a few structures from previous owners still intact.

I’d like to fix up the chicken coop and miniature goat area the previous owners used.

One of my biggest projects is going to be figuring out how tobest utilize the unused clay heavy dirt areas.

I’d ideally like to start beekeeping in this area if I can startgrowing flowers here.
