Lose Weight With Pilates

“Pilates focuses on the core postural muscles that help keep the body balanced”

It’s the New Year and the most common resolution we make is to lose weight. It is also the easiest

resolution to break as we give in to the pressures of daily life, work or just get plain lazy to workout. It’s

time to break the cycle of giving up on workouts the first chance we get. If going to a gym is not your

thing, try your hand at Pilates.

Founded by German born Joseph H Pilates, a sickly child who suffered from asthma, rickets and

rheumatic fever, Pilates focuses on the core postural muscles that help keep the body balanced and are

essential to total body conditioning and providing support for the spine.

Pilates is said to be a wonder workout by many fitness experts as it builds strength, tones the body and

relieves stress as it emphasises on proper breathing. Pilates also stresses on the importance of

alignment of the spine. There are numerous other benefits of practicing Pilates and they include:

It strengthens deep torso muscles which are important to alleviate and prevent back pain, bad

posture, spondylitis and injuries.

Pilates for an hour is equal to 60 minutes of running, 30 minutes of weight lifting and 10 minutes

of stretching.

Unlike some forms of exercise, Pilates does not overdevelop particular parts of the body and

neglect others.

While Pilates training focuses on core strength, it trains the body in an integrated way.

Pilates promotes strength and balanced muscle development as well as flexibility and increased

range of motion for the joints.

It is important to remember that Pilates is not a weekend or overnight workout. You will most definitely

notice a change in just a few weeks in the way you sit, stand, walk, or move, and even in the way you

speak as there will be an increase in self-confidence and image as you project yourself to others. One of

the best things about Pilates is that it works very well for a wide range of people. Athletes and dancers

love it as do seniors, women rebounding from pregnancy and people who are at various stages of

physical rehabilitation.

Some of the principles involved in Pilates are:

Centering

Control

Flow

Breath

Precision

Concentration

Pilates always emphasises on quality over quantity and unlike other workouts it does not include a lot of

repetitions for each move. Instead, doing each exercise with precision yields significant results in a short

time. Visit Apollo Clinic to get a customised diet plan along with more information about weight loss.
