What is MRI(Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a test that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to make pictures of organs and structures inside the body. In many cases MRI gives different information about structures in the body than can be seen with an X-ray, ultrasound, or computed tomography (CT) scan. MRI also may show problems that cannot be seen with other imaging methods.

Why It Is Done?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is done for many reasons. It is used to find problems such as tumors,

bleeding, injury, blood vessel diseases, or infection. MRI also may be done to provide more information about a problem seen on an X-ray, ultrasound scan, or CT scan. Contrast material may be used during MRI to show abnormal tissue more clearly.

Head MRI Scan

An MRI scan of any part of the head such as the brain or neck is a Head MRI scan. It helps in diagnosing any ailments related to the nervous system or preventing further damage after a serious injury to any one of these parts.

Heart MRI Scan

Cardiac catheterization and angiography are tests in which catheters (hollow tubes) are placed into the heart in order to evaluate the anatomy and function of the heart and surrounding blood vessels. So much useful information can be obtained from these tests that they are performed in virtually all patients being considered for bypass surgery or angioplasty and stenting.

Internal Organs MRI

An MRI may be used to check for tumors or other abnormalities of many organs in the body, including the: Liver, Kidneys, Spleen, Pancreas, Uterus, Ovaries, Prostate, Testicles etc.

Bone and Joints MRI

A bone and joints scan creates a map of your bone marrow to assess any changes. This scan is usually completed after the structure of the bone has been altered by trauma or surgery.

A bone and joints scan uses a small amount of radioactive material, which is so small it has no side effects.

Chest MRI

A chest MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan is a imaging test that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create pictures of the chest, or thoracic, area. It does not use radiation (x-rays).

Abdomen MRI

An abdominal MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan is an imaging test that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create pictures of the inside of the belly area. It does not use radiation (x-rays).

Single MRI images are called slices. The images can be stored on a computer or printed on film. One exam produces dozens or sometimes hundreds of images.
