Allow the pets to sniff one another through the door, and then move up to introductions where the new pet is in a carrier and the old pet can

sniff the newcomer though the carrier.

Even pets that get along need a break now and then. Ensure your kitty has access to a dog-proof

hiding place, such as a high shelf or a sofa to hide under. This way, pets can self-regulate their

contact should they want a break.

Some cats develop a habit of swiping at the dog. Keeping kitty claws trimmed minimizes your

dog’s injuries.
