Prerequisites for Training

Anybody with basic skills in Extra Capsular Cataract Extraction can undergo training.

Experience and Skill in performing Capsulo rhexis would provide an added advantage.

Attitude and Interest to Learn.

Surgeons with access to Phaco Machines in their own countries.

Training Programme

Two Types of Courses:

Basic Phaco Training Programme:

For Beginners.

Advanced Phaco Training Programme :

For Surgeons with prior experience.

Duration

The duration of the course

1-4 weeks.

Structured Training

Theory on Phaco Machines are taught initially.

The surgeons are asked to observe surgeries performed by experienced surgeons .

Anesthesia

Initially the trainee performs the surgeries under a block.

As we go ahead with the training, surgeries are done under topical anesthesia.

First Week

The basic steps in Phaco are taught such as handling the machine, trenching of the nucleus, Chopping , Irrigation aspiration etc.

Scleral Tunnel.

Clear Corneal.

Second Week

Entry.

Capsulorhexis.

Trenching.

Chopping.

Irrigation and Aspiration.

IOL Insertion.

Post Operative Outcomes

The surgeons are encouraged to see their patients the next day after surgery. They are also asked to watch videos of surgeries performed by them to correct any mistakes.

Eximer Laser Machine

Interpretation of Orbscan Reports.

1 week training.

5-10 procedures can be performed.

Flap creation with the Amadeus Microkeratome.
