Implantology

Dental implants have changed the face of dentistry. A dental implant is actually a replacement for the root or roots of a tooth.

Like tooth roots, dental implants are secured in the jawbone and are not visible once surgically placed. They are used to secure crowns (the parts of teeth seen in the mouth), bridgework or dentures by a variety of means. They are made of titanium, which is lightweight, strong and biocompatible, which means that it is not rejected by the body. Titanium and tita-nium alloys are the most widely used metals in both dental and other bone implants, such as orthopedic joint replacements. Dental implants have the highest success rate of any implanted surgical device.

Titanium

All SGS Dental Systems’ implants are made from “bio friendly“ medical titanium alloy, grade 5. Titanium’s special property of fusing to bone, called osseointe-gration (“osseo” – bone; “integration” – fusion or join-ing with), is the biological basis of dental implant success. That’s because when teeth are lost, the bone that supported those teeth is lost too. Placing dental implants stabilizes bone, preventing its loss. Along with replacing lost teeth, implants help maintain the jawbone’s shape and density. Dental implants help you eat, chew, smile, talk and look completely nat-ural. This functionality imparts social, psychological and physical well-being.A typical implant consists of a titanium screw (resembling a tooth root) with a roughened or smooth surface. The majority of dental implants are made out of commercially pure titanium. SGS is using Medical Grade 5 Titanium, Titanium 6AL-4V, (signifying the Titanium alloy containing 6% Alumini-um and 4% Vanadium alloy) is believed to offer similar osseointegration levels as commercially pure titani-um. Ti- 6Al-4V alloy offers better tensile strength and fracture resistance.

SGS-Sterilization procedure

SGS has a strict sterilisation process, undergoing a contineous laboratory control and report manual managment. All our implant undergo a clean-room packaging channel and then intreduced to Gamma radiation.We keep a hard control on the steps our collegues practise and each dosage of Implants is randomly inspected in SGS laboratories.

Following are results of SEM-EDS-XPS analyses of SGS Systems Co implants with Bonit coating

Bonit coated Dental Implants of SGS Systems Co have all substantial features of the Bonit type Ca-P coating:

Clean uncontaminated uniform surface; Typical Bonit-like crystalline structure of Ca-P brushite particles’ coating on dental implants surface; Ca-P-O chemical composition of the coating layer approving its Bonit origin.

Summary

The implants with the BONITex-surface showed between 14 and 30 days a significant increased Bone-Im-plant-Contact (BIC) in the spongiosa. In the further course within the bony remodeling BIC-Data in the range between 40-60% arised, which conforms to the data described in the literature. After 30 days the osteocalcin –expression too was significant increased by the implants with the BONIT ex-surface.

The Controlled double Acid treatment delivers the desired roughness and porosity without leaving embedded debris and Acid residue on the Implant Surface.Improved ossteointegration allows the bone to grow around the implant and into it within the lowest healing time possible, and with a more potent grip of the grown bone around the Implant, thereby increasing the pre-dictability of the implantation treatment both in the short and long term.The exclusivity of the SCTi® Process is seen through elaboration of its parameters using SEM-EDS and XPS technique as power instruments, both for development and for online operation control. The Process was approved through its 2010-2013 continuous running and manufacturing above 350,000 successfully traded dental implantsduring this period.

Following are results of SEM-EDS analyses of SGS Systems Co implants manufactured with SCTi® Process

SEM photomicrographs at Magnification X25 located above show that the implants’ surface is absolutely clean, with no foreign particles remaining on the surface.

SEM photomicrographs at Magnification X2000 located above show clean surface, no particles remaining behind the treatment. The porous structure is very definite, with roughly 5-15 microns diameter, within the surface area of 100X100 microns, while the pores’ walls and bottom are cratered by small pores of 2-4 microns diameter.

EDS spectrum located above show that the surface chemical composition of implants at occasionalpoints of interest is of the original Titanium alloy (Ti, Al and V at appropriate ratio), with nocontamination.

The SGS Comprehensive Titanium Surface Treatment (SCTi®) Process is the new innovative development Surface Treatment method by SGS, utilizing oxi-dized Titanium compiled with Hydroxyapatite crystals to spray the Surface for optimal rough-ness and micro-geometry, followed by a controlled double Acid treatment to allow deep dim-ples and porosity within the optimal 5 – 10 microns range.
