The escalation of steroid use can vary with different types of training, Body builders and weight lifters tend to escalate their dose to a much higher level than do long distance runners or swimmers.

Anabolic steroid abuse has been associated with a wide range of adverse side effects ranging from some that are physically unattractive, such as acne and breast development in men, to others that is life threatening.

• The effects of steroid intake if often associated with the damage of one’s liver. Research has proved that this is not really true. The liver is part of the filtration system of the body and hence when a steroid that has been ingested and it passes through the liver it gets broken down like all other food. This might cause a variation in the normal enzyme levels while the person is taking the drug. These levels return to normal once the intake is stopped.
