What is Stress Management

Stress management is the reduction of stress and

especially chronic stress often for the purpose of improving

everyday functioning.

“A Destressitizer is any process by which

an individual can relieve stress.”

TECHNIQUES OF STRESS MANAGEMENT

The following techniques have been recently dubbed

“Destressitizers” by The Journal of the Canadian Medical

Association.

GETTING A HOBBY

A hobby is an activity or interest that is undertaken for pleasure or relaxation, often in one's spare time.

What are hobbies for some people are professions for others: a chef may enjoy

playing computer games as a hobby, while a

professional game tester might enjoy cooking.

Generally speaking, the person who does

something for fun, not remuneration, is called an amateur (or hobbyist), as

distinct from a professional.

DEEP BREATHING

A common diaphragmatic

breathing exercise is as

follows:

Sit or lie comfortably, with loose garments.

Put one hand on your chest and

one on your stomach.

Slowly inhale through your

nose or through pursed lips (to slow down the

intake of breath).

As you inhale, feel your

stomach expand with your hand.

Slowly exhale through pursed lips to regulate the release of

air.

Rest and repeat.

ARTISTIC EXPRESSION

Art is the process or product of deliberately

arranging elements in a way to affect the senses

or emotions.

It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of

expression, including music, literature, film,

photography, sculpture, and paintings.

The meaning of art is explored in a branch of philosophy known as

aesthetics.

SPENDING TIME IN NATURE

Attention Restoration Theory (ART) asserts

that people can concentrate better after

spending time in nature, or even looking

at scenes of nature.

Natural environments abound with "soft

fascinations" which a person can reflect upon in "effortless attention", such as clouds moving across the sky, leaves rustling in a breeze or water bubbling over

rocks in a stream.

TIME MANAGEMENT

Time management refers to a range of skills, tools, and

techniques used to manage time when accomplishing specific tasks, projects and

goals.

This set encompasses a wide scope of activities, and these include planning, allocating,

setting goals, delegation, analysis of time spent,

monitoring, organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing.

Initially time management referred to just business or

work activities, but eventually the term broadened to include personal activities as well. A

time management system is a designed combination of

processes, tools and techniques.

TIME MANAGEMENT

POSEC is an acronym for Prioritize by Organizing,

Streamlining, Economizing and Contributing.

The method dictates a template which emphasizes

an average individual's immediate sense of

emotional and monetary security.

It suggests that by attending to one's personal

responsibilities first, an individual is better positioned

to shoulder collective responsibilities.

Inherent in the acronym is a hierarchy of self-realization

which mirrors Abraham Maslow's "Hierarchy of

needs".

TIME MANAGEMENT

Prioritize - Your time and define your life by goals.

Organizing - Things you have to accomplish regularly to be

successful. (Family and Finances)

Streamlining - Things you may not like to do, but must do. (Work and

Chores)

Economizing - Things you should do or may even like to do, but they're not pressingly urgent.

(Pastimes and Socializing)

Contributing - By paying attention to the few remaining things that

make a difference. (Social Obligations)

LISTENING TO RELAXING MUSIC

New Age music is music of various styles intended to create artistic inspiration, relaxation, and optimism. It has chants and this mystery to

the tone. It is used by listeners for yoga, massage, meditation, and reading as a method of stress management or to create a peaceful

atmosphere in their home or other environments, and is often associated with environmentalism

and New Age spirituality.
