What Is Alamo?Alamo spot-on is a preventative treatment from �eas andticks bites and infestations and works on all 4 stages o the �ea life cycle. Geraniol acts as a natural insect repellent and insecticide.Geraniol is generally regarded as safe (GRAS) under section 409of the FFDCA (21 CFR 182.60).Alamo also contains Lavender essential oil to further boost itsanti parasitic properties. Lavender oil exhibited a low order of toxicitywhen administered subcutaneously to animals.Alamo is suitable for kittens and puppies over 3 months old.It provides a repellent action for 28 days and after you can easilyreuse the product again without causing toxicity.

Geraniol & LavenderGeraniol content in ALAMO acts as a naturalinsect repellent and insecticide. Like all terpenes, geraniol hasneurotoxic action, inhibiting the transmission of nerve signalsby blocking the enzyme acetylcholinesterase system and enzymesof the octopaminergic system.Lavender �owers contain between 1% and 3% essential oil.The essential oil contains mixtures of mono and sesquiterpenoid alcohols,esters, oxides, and ketones, the most abundant of which arelinaloyl acetate (30% to 55%), linalool (20% to 35%), cineole, camphor,beta-ocimene, limonene, caproic acid, caryophyllene oxide,and tannins (5% to 10%).Another in vitro study found lavender oil to exert antibacterial e�ectswith particularly potent e�ects against gram-negative microorganisms.Two essential oils derived from L. angustifolia and Lavandula intermediawere found to possess strong and rapid antiparasitic e�ects againstGiardia duodenalis and Trichomonas vaginalis in an in vitro study.

E�cacy of Alamo?Tunón et al., 2006, found that the oxygenated compoundsphenylethyl alcohol, b-citronellol, cinnamyl alcohol, geraniol, and a-pinene,isolated from the essential oil of Dianthus caryophyllum, showed strongrepellent activities against ticks.Geraniol is obtained from �owers like Geranium. Used for years as a naturalinsect repellent for plants. A recent clinical study from University of Floridafound it to be classed as an e�ective treatment for Fleas infestations.Khallaayoune et al., 2009, performed a �eld trial on the e�cacy of 1 % geraniolspray against ticks in two farms near Rabat (Morocco). Results clearly revealedthat 1 % geraniol has a preventive e�ect against Hyalomma ticks.Nerio et al., 2010 stated that plant essential oils and their individualmetabolites have demonstrated optimal potential for repellent activityagainst several species, not only insects, but other kinds of arthropods.However, its high volatility decreases the times of protection. Therefore, these natural products have a considerable potential ascommercial repellent products when they are mixed with �xative materials,improving the e�ciency and obtaining even greater activities than thosefound for DEET, known as the most e�ective mosquito repellent.
