For patients diagnosed with cancer we provide surgery for colorectal, early stage gynaecological and skin cancers and for patients referred to the Queen Elizabeth site, Breast surgery. Patients requiring more complex surgery or surgery for other cancers we refer to the Cancer Centres of Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospitals. We have weekly Oncology clinics on both hospital sites and patients diagnosed with breast, lung, colorectal and haematological cancers requiring chemotherapy treatment have access to chemotherapy units on either hospital site. We are investing in these services and in recent years have relocated and expanded the unit at University Hospital Lewisham with the opening of the David Whitmore suite and lately extended opening to 6 days a week at Queen Elizabeth Hospital located in the Macmillan Brook Unit. We have also invested in an electronic prescribing system which we anticipate will support patient choice in where they receive their chemotherapy. Radiotherapy services are provided at St Thomas’ hospital and we are supporting the development of the satellite radiotherapy unit planned to open on the Queen Mary's Sidcup site in 2016. The Queen Elizabeth site has a level 1 paediatric oncology shared care unit (POSCU). It provides supportive care and chemotherapy to children and their families. This includes direct access 24/7 to the paediatric inpatient Tiger Ward for assessment when unwell. The facilities include 4 dedicated cubicles for children requiring admission and a day case bay. We administer outpatient chemotherapy and liaise with families weekly to provide support. We work alongside the Primary Treatment Centres of the Royal Marsden Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College Hospital. Cancer Services Summary

Cancer Services at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust provides a range of cancer diagnostic and treatment services for patients referred to University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich.

We aim to provide high quality cancer services and working as part of the London Cancer Alliance South and West Integrated Cancer System offer care in line with best practice guidelines.

Improving Cancer Waits

We have worked hard over the last 12 months to improve access to services.

At the beginning of 2015 96% of patients referred on the urgent suspected cancer two week wait pathway are seen within 14 days of the Trust receiving the referral.

Diagnostic Services

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust provides diagnostic services for suspected Lung, Breast, Colorectal, Haematological, Brain, Gynaecological, Skin, Upper Gastrointestinal, and Sarcoma cancers on both hospital sites.

Services for suspected Head and Neck cancers are located on the University Hospital Lewisham site only and suspected Urological cancers on the Queen Elizabeth site only.

We provide a variety of investigations within the radiology and endoscopy diagnostic centres located on both hospital sites.

For patients with more complex diseases requiring specialist investigation we work closely with the Cancer Centres of Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospitals for timely access to these tests whilst the patient remains in our care.

Cancer Treatments

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is the host trust for the South East London Bowel Cancer Screening Centre (SELBCSC). Bowel cancer screening is offered to its 60–74 year old GP registered populations of Lewisham, Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley at University Hospital

Lewisham and to Southwark and Lambeth populations at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The screening centre will implement a new national service this year called Bowel Scope Screening. This will be rolled out incrementally over a two year period. All 55 year olds registered with a GP practice that has been included in the roll out programme will be offered a one-off flexible sigmoidoscopy.

For patients receiving chemotherapy treatment at the Trust contact should be made with the respective chemotherapy unit:
