Brain = Interface?
“The final frontier of the digital technology is integrating into your own brain. DARPA wants to go there. Scientists want to go there. Entrepreneurs want to go there. And increasingly, it looks like it’s possible.”

Brain-Computer-Interfaces & Apps
“We demonstrate a brain‐controlled address book dialing app, which works on similar principles to P300‐speller brain‐computer interfaces: the phone flashes a sequence of photos of contacts from the address book and a P300 brain potential is elicited when the flashed photo matches the person whom the user wishes to dial. EEG signals from the headset are transmitted wirelessly to an iPhone, which natively runs a lightweight classifier to discriminate P300 signals from noise.”

DNA as data storage medium
“A bioengineer and geneticist at Harvard’s Wyss Institute have successfully stored 5.5 petabits of data — around 700 terabytes — in a single gram of DNA. (…) The work (…) basically treats DNA as just another digital storage device. (…) where other bleeding‐edge storage mediums need to be kept in sub‐zero vacuums, DNA can survive for hundreds of thousands of years in a box in your garage”http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/134672-harvard-cracks-dna-storage-crams-700-terabytes-of-data-into-a-single-gram
“There is a reason that backed up data is usually only kept for a few weeks or months — it just isn’t feasible to have warehouses full of hard drives.” “If the entirety of human knowledge — every book, uttered word, and funny cat video — can be stored in a few hundred kilos of DNA, though… well, it might just be possible to record everything (hello, police state!)”

Long Term Effects of DNA Memory Storage
“New research from Emory University School of Medicine, in Atlanta, has shown that it is possible for some information to be inherited biologically through chemical changes that occur in DNA. During the tests they learned that that mice can pass on learned information about traumatic or stressful experiences – in this case a fear of the smell of cherry blossom – to subsequent generations. (…) This suggests that experiences are somehow transferred from the brain into the genome, allowing them to be passed on to later generations.”

Optogenetics: Stanford scientists made mice walk in circles via remote control of a wireless LED implant. The technique makes use of neurons that have been genetically altered to respond to light, often with the introduction of genes from a strain of green algae. Researchers can control which part of a mouse brain contains these light‐sensitive neurons, and they can then study the function of that brain region by activating the neurons—essentially turning them on and off—while watching the animal’s behavior.
