If you’re a dog lover, it may be very tempting to pet every doe-eyed pup that passes you in the park. There’s nothing wrong with petting a passing dog as long as you’re in tune with ways to know a dog is dangerous.

 1. Silence is not Always Golden  When an animal gets quiet and tense, he is

probably uncomfortable and may react unpredictably. Pass on petting this pooch.

 2. When a Bark Means You’ve Been Marked

A dog’s barking can be playful, or it can be a warning. A dog with steely focus and a guttural growl should be avoided.

 3. Whale Eye  A precursor to the obvious signs may be when

the dog tilts his head and shows the whites of his eyes. Some breeds naturally show more of the whites of their eyes than others, but if you see more white than usual, beware.

 4. Nose-butting

If a dog charges with his nose, take that as a preliminary warning. The next charge may involve teeth.

 5. Raised Ears  A dog that’s feeling peaceful will have ears

that drape in a relaxed fashion. Ears that are tense and raised can indicate stress or fear, which can be followed by aggression.
