My name is Cheryl Widlend, and I’m from FashionMentorOnline
Today I’m going to be chatting to you about some business tips in relation to starting out your new business
start with just one product you don’t have to design a complete range of products, especially when you’re
just starting out. Let‘s say for example your hot niche market is parasols – the niche your decided upon after doing your market research in:
strategy #1 ‘how to find out if people want your product or service’ in the book CREATIVE PERSONS BEST FRIEND
You only need to start with one type of parasol, for example beach wear parasols, OR if you’ve decided that jewellery is your niche market, you only need to start with necklaces OR if you’ve decided that textile design is your niche market, you need only start with scarves, and so on…

keep your range small
you don’t have to have a range with lots and lots of styles in it get known for one product first, once you are successful with that product and you are generating a profit, then only should you add other products to your range
for example, with your beach wear parasols, jewellery, or textile design create them in 3-4 styles and 6-8 colours first

keeping your range small makes it so much easier to manage and control your production:
fabric buying production planning meeting deadline dates delivery to clients…and so on

don’t just sell to retailers there are so many avenues open to you to sell your product
or service, there’s really no need to only sell to retailers – the profit margin’s small, and you need to rely on feedback from the end user - your customer, via the retailer
the better way to sell your product or service includes: home parties trunk shows markets charity events fashion shows…and the list goes on
www.FashionMentorOnline.com
for us, for we found that the most effective avenues were:
charity events fashion shows, especially race days trunk shows by other accessory designers in our boutiques
(our main product lines were fashion apparel)
because you’re selling directly to your client, the profit margin for you is much higher…more about this in:
strategy #7 ‘how to market and sell your product or service’ in the book CREATIVE PERSONS BEST FRIEND
