• For most teens, the problem of having blackheads and acne can be really disturbing. In fact, it's more than just "skin deep". Getting rid of blackheads doesn't only mean getting rid of the spots and blemishes on your face; it is also about gaining back your self-esteem and confidence. During adolescents and teen years, not all are prepared for the twists and turns of this phase. This is the time where most teens are in the verge of identifying themselves and learning how to cope with life's continuous battles. It is also a time of major hormonal changes in the body. Due to this, the sebaceous glands tend to be over active during teen years - resulting to an over production of sebum. As the excess oils and dead skin start clogging the pores, an oxidation process occurs which result to "blackish" spots. Although you can only hope that one skin pore gets affected, it will actually get worse once bacteria infects it. It will then affect one pore after another. The next thing you know, you're already worrying about blemishes and black spots on your face and body.

• Teens with oily skin plus the hormonal changes that comes with the phase are the ones who mostly suffer psychologically from this condition. They start to wish they came from families with good and clear skin like the Chinese. Also, at this age when they feel the need to belong and be accepted in a group, the more they worry about their appearance, the more they will lash out on themselves and start to withdraw from social interaction. At this point, we'll see teenagers afraid to go out with friends or family, they would prefer to sulk in their own rooms and become "loners". Thus, you don't need to worry because their "anti-social" behavior will fade once they've started to resort the problems they've to deal with - like getting rid of blackheads. As parents, you can't assume that once you've talked to your son and daughter with blackhead and acne problems, they'll listen and start living normally again. It is important to remember that you were once a teenager too and you've once dealt with these hormonal changes yourself. During this stage, you'll really be earnest about your outward appearances and criticisms from other people.

• There is no better way to resolve this than to understand how blackheads and acne developed in the first place. Deal with the source of the problem rather than to continuously talk your daughter or son into going out with their friends more or to have a social life again! Blackheads and acne can really bring a feeling of discomfort and shame not only to teenagers but also to those who have it in general. It results to a poor self-image, lack of self-confidence and a feeling of being at a disadvantage - especially when comparing yourself to other people. Since this mindset and mood can ruin not only your social life but also your growth as a person, getting rid of blackheads and acne is something you really need to focus on, especially during its early stages.
