they believe in horoscope when they try to find out the prospective life partners in Marathi matrimonial profiles. It is ensured that the both the parties to the marriage are not from the same gotra. The other things compared in the Marathi bride and the Marathi groom is their astrological sings in order to find out the suitability of the match. The mate selection is mostly done by the parents and elders of the family, but in modern times the couple are free to some extent in finding their own life partner.

both the sides get agree for marriage and they perform the worship of family deity (Kuldevta). This is known as kelvin. The puja is performed by the specially invited priest and is attended by both parties. 

Sakhar PudaIt is in fact the engagement ceremony in Marathi wedding. In this ceremony the sugar is fed by the Marathi bride and the groom to each other in order to celebrate their union.

gods to invite them and bless the couple. Thereafter, the invitations are given to their respective relatives and friends personally by the parents or elders of both the parties to the marriage. 

MunjaIt is similar to the upnayana or janew ceremony. Generally it happens before the teen age starts for the boys. But, if due to some reasons it was not performed earlier, the ceremony is performed just a few days before the marriage.

Haldi Chadhavat

This ritual is held for both the Marathi bride and Marathi groom at their respective houses. The turmeric paste is applied to them by their elder on the feet, hands and face. The purpose behind this ritual is to make the face and skin glow of the Marathi bride and the Marathi groom on the wedding day. After this ceremony is held, the Marathi bride and the groom are not supposed to leave their respective houses till the day of wedding.

Mehendi

This is similar to the henna ceremony of the marriages of the other states in which henna is applied on the hands and feet of the bride in very attractive and unique patterns.

Rituals on Wedding Day

At the wedding venue, the Marathi bride and the Marathi groom are separated by an Antarpat (a silk shawl). After the mangalashtakas recited by priest; the antarpat is removed and the couple is able to see each other. They

exchange the garlands and receive the rain the unbroken rice. This is followed by the Sankalp ceremony where the couple seek permission of their respective parent to get married. This ritual is followed by the Kanyadaan, Vivah Homa, Saptapadhi, and the wedding ceremony ends with the Karmasampati ritual in which couple along with the bride's father please various Gods to bless them.

Earlier, the people used to arrange the things for weddings their own. But in modern times, the services of wedding planner, event management etc. are also sought by the people.
