Hydraulic Down Force SystemControlling a planter’s down force is a proven way to improve consistent emergence across the field and increase yield. Ag Leader Hydraulic Down Force system drastically improves on air bag down force systems, providing instant response to changing soil and field conditions that can’t be accomplished with air bag systems.

FOR PLANTERS

Two channels allow the down force to be adjusted separately on the planter wings compared to the center section of the planter where there is more soil compaction. This is a big advantage over air bag systems that average down force across the entire toolbar.

Adjusts pressure instantly in changing soil types without the inconsistency created by pneumatic systems that respond over a longer period of time (and land). An air bag system could take up to 20 seconds to inflate enough to create the proper down force, compared to one second with Ag Leader’s Hydraulic Down Force system. The difference? A quarter acre using a 24-row planter.

CROPSENSINGTECHNOLOGYThe use of crop sensing technology in grains, cereals and other production ag crops is one technique to increase plant health and yield potential. OptRx® Crop Sensors measure the nitrogen needs of your crop and provide application rate recommendations in real-time to maximize your profit.

“The key is to get liquid nitrogen delivered to the plant before it makes its yield determination. Unfortunately, by the time plants show stress that’s visible to the human eye, the yield determination has been made. That’s where you see the true benefit of the OptRx system.”

Matt Helmke, Nebraska

How OptRx Works • OptRx Crop Sensors are installed across the application boom. • Emitting their own light source, the sensors measure crop vigor based on plant mass and light reflectivity readings. • The Vegetation Index (VI) is a value that compares the vigor of crops to show the variability of health across a field.• Using the VI, DirectCommand™ applies nitrogen at variable rates on-the-fly based on real-time crop readings.

Rate TableOptRx Crop Sensors are ideal for applying fertilizers, pesticides, defoliants, growth regulators and other agrochemicals on-the-go at the rates necessary for optimum performance. Working with an agronomist or crop consultant, select a Vegetation Index range and assign the recommended rates based on the range chosen.

OptRx Benefits• Reduce application of nitrogen

in nitrogen-rich areas.• Increase yield potential in

nitrogen-poor areas of the field.• Record crop vigor variation

data across the field.• Balance the affects of organic

material variability across the field.

• Improve yield potential for crops harmed by denitrification due to poor drainage.

• Apply optimum N rates to maximize yields while limiting money wasted on over application.

When to Use OptRx

CornFor optimum results, nitrogen should be sidedressed after V5 using a high-clearance nitrogen toolbar or high-clearance sprayer equipped with drop hoses.

WheatThe ideal application window for topdressing wheat is when the crop is between tillering and stem elongation growth stages. Any equipment capable of topdressing the crop will work.

The Causes of Nitrogen Variability

Organic MaterialOrganic material is one of the most significant sources of nitrogen in the soil. The more organic matter present, the more nitrogen the soil produces. Because organic matter can vary with different soil types, nitrogen availability in the soil can vary greatly across the field.

DenitrificationDenitrification occurs as a result of poor drainage and uneven moisture distribution across the field. In standing water, nitrogen in the soil changes into a gas and is lost to the air, leaving soil in some areas of the field nitrogen deficient. Denitrification can cause a loss of 5 percent of nitrogen per day, causing significant variation across the field.

Cost of additional Nitrogen applied

31 pounds x 100 acres x $.60 per pound

$1,860

$3,090 increased profit over 100 acres.

Value from increased yield

11 bushels x $4.50 corn x 100 acres

$4,950$1,860

Lodging and Under-fertilizingUnder-fertilizing crops can lead to significant losses in yield. At the same time, for wheat, barley and other grass crops, over-fertilizing can lead to lodging which can cost a grower up to 60 percent of total yield.

Yield and Moisture MappingView yield and moisture maps in real-time for instant feedback on yield performance across the field.

Hybrid/Variety Yield MappingOverlay planting maps with real-time harvest maps to view instant yield and moisture variations by hybrid/variety in the field. This provides better seed selection data for next planting season.

Summary ScreenHarvest summary screen provides at-a-glance information about number of acres harvested, total and average bushels harvested and more.

Variety Map IntegrationYield monitoring with the Ag Leader® Integra display now allows an operator to load crop variety maps recorded by another Ag Leader or other brand of planter monitor. Data can be read into the software to create a reference file that can then be loaded onto the Ag Leader Integra display. This allows the operator to view variety performance in real-time during harvest.

AutoSwath™ for HarvestHarvest data is recorded based on the number of rows being harvested, providing accurate data when harvesting point rows or partial swaths.

Information on both yield and moisture from the sensors is recorded by the Ag Leader® Integra or Versa™ display mounted in the cab.

Grain is fed into the harvester’s elevator where sensors read the moisture content of the grain.

As the grain is delivered to the holding tank, the mass flow sensor monitors yield.

Intellislope®

Intellislope Benefits• Increase field operation windows and reduce field compaction.• Reduce yield-robbing affects of denitrification due to poor drainage.• Provide deeper root zone and earlier soil warm up for better crop

development.• Eliminate hassles associated with laser surveying equipment/services.• Do-it-yourself tile planning, recording and installation.• Tile on your schedule with equipment you already own.• Achieve professional grade results.

Plan Enter the desired minimum/maximum target depths, as well as the minimum grade to drain excess water from the field. This can be done in the field or with the SMS™ Advanced Water Management Module.

Install Use the plan you created to install tile using AutoTile® to adjust the depth of the plow automatically. You can also use Grade control or Pitch control modes as needed.

Survey Can be done ahead of time with an ATV, or at the time of installation with the tile plow utilizing RTK GPS. Collect surveys by driving over the path where tile needs to be placed to collect the surface elevation.

AutoTile® Millions of feet of installed tile prove how well AutoTile works to keep tile on grade. A three-step process to Survey, Plan, and Install the tile is as simple as it sounds. The system now has the added benefit of roll correction to keep the tile depth at the desired level on side slopes.

Guidance As surveys are collected, a guidance line is created with the survey. When the survey is loaded for installation, manual guidance, assisted or integrated steering can be used to ensure that the tile is placed where the survey was recorded.

Topography View The Topography reference layer allows you to visualize variations in elevation throughout the field when it is difficult to see with the naked eye. This makes it easier to ensure tile is placed in the lowest areas of the field, and to allow the best placement of tile for the most connections.

Well-drained soils encourage deeper root development and healthier crops.

Saturated soils lead to shallow root growth and poor plant development.

“The ease of surveying a line or system of lines improved dramatically compared to using a laser or physically surveying a field with a level and stick. We can now install tile almost instantly with better accuracy compared to taking several hours and days hand surveying.”

Steve Berger, Iowa

INSTALLINGTILE THEEASY WAYWater management is an important part of maximizing yield. Properly-tiled fields can lengthen planting windows, promote better root development, reduce field compaction, increase nutrient accessibility and improve consistency of crop emergence. The Intellislope® tile plow control system makes installing tile easy, eliminating the need for complicated laser surveying equipment. If you can drive a tractor, you can install drainage tile with Intellislope.

“All the data is at our fingertips. It’s been easy. The SMS technology, as well as all the technology we use on the farm has definitely trimmed our costs and we expect to reap the benefits in increased yield.”

Tyler Johnson, Illinois

SMS™ Software

Collecting data to make smart management decisions is a critical step in your precision farming operation. You may have data from different systems and sources, so the ability to combine all those items in one place is key to starting with a good foundation. SMS™ was developed with this in mind. We support majority of precision systems and other data sources that you may need to make accurate decisions in the future. Utilizing all your data in one system is the first step in making important management decisions.

Growers By recording data year-round from your precision farming display, you are your number-one resource. Collecting data over multiple years allows you to understand how changing variables effect yield and profitability.

Crop Consultants Agronomists can identify ways to improve yield potentials for crops across your farm. By utilizing your valuable crop data, this information can be reviewed and analyzed to help make the right management decisions for your fields.

Soil Sampling Data provided from soil sampling can determine nutrient variations that can influence yield potential. Variable rate prescriptions can be created for precise fertilizer application based on your field's nutrient needs.

Insurance and Farm Management Growers' field boundaries, planting, application, and yield history can be stored within SMS Software. Acreage and production history can easily be exported from SMS Software to an insurance provider, eliminating time-consuming paperwork for government reporting.

Service Providers Custom applicators can be provided turn-key prescription maps, eliminating the potential for miscommunication on field locations, product rates and recommendations. Field activity can easily be imported into SMS Software.

Seed Working directly with seed dealers, data from precision farming assists seed partners in matching the right hybrids/varieties to different fields based on both current field conditions and historical data.

Water Management Data from precision operations can give you a better understanding of your client’s field topography. SMS Software provides you with the information to create drainage plans with the assistance of elevation, soil survey, grain harvest and other maps of your client’s fields. SMS equips you with the tools to utilize all the information needed to create and share professional drainage plans.

When shared with trusted advisors, the value of your data is even greater. For example, using SMS Advanced Software, consultants can provide valuable insights based on your data and different variables such as soil types, seed selection, fertilizer practices, etc. Here are examples of how a complete precision farming software solution like SMS works within your network of advisors.

With Ag Leader's AgFiniti® Cloud-Based Platform, you can wirelessly share data with trusted advisors such as dealers, co-ops and farm managers. Conveniently upload/download prescriptions and other files from advisors. Email links to your files to anyone you choose for easy downloading. To learn more, see pages 36-37.
