“Breaking Silence: A Stage for the Courageous” -----Begin----- "An ARTISTIC EXTRAVAGANZA event hosted by Zeta Mu, a Chapter of the International Business Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi on the campus of University of Texas at Arlington, will be held November 5, 2011 at the university's Rio Grande Ballroom, 300 W. First Street, Arlington, TX 76010. The goal of the fundraising event, “Breaking Silence: A Stage for the Courageous” is to educate participants about Domestic Violence and demonstrate the techniques available to prevent it - at its root. In doing so, contributors to the event – musicians, artists, local businesses, community organizations and Zeta Mu – will raise money to continue the work of SOS at Zac’s Ridge (www.sosinc.org) , a local, 8-year old non-profit, 501(c)(3), 100% volunteer, organization. SOS Co-Founder, Veda MacGregor explains, "Situations and challenges in life rob people of their vision and purpose. The result of not reaching one’s potential can sometimes result in anger, shame, fear or resentments that hold people back, and these emotions can sometimes cause people to become violent. The root of violence stems from behaviors that all humans hand down to one another. Generation upon generation of brokenness exists. SOS is making a much greater impact on the root of Domestic Violence by teaching people practical, hands-on, tools to overcome emotions and thoughts that prevent one from living the life they were born to live." SOS is dedicated to educating people on how to tap into their potential in order to make permanent changes in their lives – changes that eventually impact those around them in personal, professional and community relationships overall. The event has three major cornerstones: A Benefit Concert with 3 performers, A Silent Art Auction where the artwork is mostly centered on the theme of the event, and an Art Exhibit from the "Silent Witnesses" program. This art exhibit entitled, "You Call This Love", includes approximately 40 wooden silhouettes of red-painted women, known as "The Red Ladies", each one memorializing a woman who was killed by someone claiming to love her. "This powerful exhibit travels frequently, and we are very fortunate to have scheduled it for our event", says Event Manager, Lori Dunham, an officer of Zeta Mu. Additionally, several vendors and organizations are planning to participate. Concessions and a Fajita Dinner will also be available for sale. The art exhibit opens at 5:30pm, the vendor and fajita areas open at 6pm, and the Benefit Concert starts at 8pm. The event and all attractions close at 10:30pm. With the exception of the Benefit Concert, the event is FREE and open to the PUBLIC. A limited number of concert tickets can be purchased at www.utatickets.com, under the Concert/Comedy category. There are 3 tiers of tickets available: "Standing Room Only" - a dance party with freedom to move about the room. "Premium" - a reserved seat for the concert, and 1 Fajita Dinner Plate* with each ticket sold. "VIP" - a reserved seat near the front of the stage, 1 Fajita Dinner Plate* with each ticket sold, and a meet-and-greet with the event's performers before the show. *Fajita Dinner Plate includes choice of steak or chicken, rice, beans, tortillas, grilled onions and peppers, drink, and dessert.
