On 31 January 1946, the new constitution of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, modeled after the Soviet Union, established six republics, an autonomous province, and an autonomous district that were part of SR Serbia. The federal capital was Belgrade.

War in B&H 1992-1995

The Bosnian War was a result of multiethnic strife within Bosnia. Bosnia has been traditionally multicultural and has created territories within its borders to accommodate Serbs and Croats that do not consider themselves part of mainstream Bosnian culture.

Because of this, there has been much debate as to whether the Bosnian War was a civil war or a war of aggression. Many Bosniaks and Croats believe that the conflict was a war of Serbian and Croatian aggression, while most Serbs believe it was a civil war. Bosniaks are predominately Muslim, while Serbs are Eastern Orthodox, and Croats are mostly Roman Catholic. At the time the war started in March of 1992, Bosniaks consisted of 43% of Bosnia, while Serbs accounted of 31% of the population and Croats 17%.

1998 - International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia indicted Galić

(on the basis of individual responsibility on charges of murder, inhumane acts other than murder, crimes against humanity, unlawfully inflicting terror upon civilians, attacks on civilians and violations of the laws and customs of war)

December 20, 1999 -arrested by SFOR  December 5, 2003 -trial ended in a conviction and a 20

year sentence for the shelling and sniping of Sarajevo November 30, 2006 -Galić appealed the judgement;

appeal was rejected and the appeals chamber extended his sentence from 20 years to life imprisonment.
