was born May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska the fourth of seven children of Grenada-born
Louise Little (née Norton) and Georgia-born Earl Little
Earl was an outspoken Baptist lay speaker admirer of Pan-African activist Marcus Garvey
(Jamaican political leader, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator)
local leader of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) who inculcated self-reliance and black pride in his children

When he get imprisoned, his brother wrote to him about Nation of Islam.
After out from prison, he concluded every relationship he'd had with whites had been tainted by dishonesty, injustice, greed, and hatred.
Elijah Muhammad, who advised him to renounce his past, humbly bow in prayer to Allah, and promise never to engage in destructive behaviour again

known as the "Butcher of Lyon" for having personally tortured prisoners of the Gestapo while stationed in Lyon, France
His patrilineal ancestors were likely a French Catholic family named Barbier who had left France at the time of the French Revolution
PARENTS In 1914, his father Nickolaus Barbie
was drafted to fight in World War I. He returned an angry, bitter man.
He became an alcoholic and abused his children.
June 1933, Barbie's younger brother Kurt died at the age of eighteen of chronic illness. Later that year, their father died.
After the death, he decided to learn theology.
While unemployed, Barbie was drafted into the Nazi labour service.
at the age of 29, he was assigned to Lyon as the head of the local Gestapo.
