HOPE - Hospital Preparedness for Emergencies - Attapeu, Lao PDR HOPE activities are well underway in Lao PDR. In August 2011, HOPE training took place in Attapeu province - view the pictures. HOPE is a Training Course for Hospital staff and healthcare personnel, both medical and non medical, to prepare healthcare facilities to respond effectively to community emergencies involving large numbers of casualties. The course enables staff to develop plans to respond, based on best-practice guidelines. Instructors and practitioners are trained with HOPE. HOPE is a project from the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) - a regional training program initiated in 1998 by the U.S. Agency for International Development’s, Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) to strengthen disaster response capacities in Asia. The Program is currently running in nine countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos PDR, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines and Vietnam. The Program Goal is to increase capacity to manage and prepare for disasters through good training. Training courses and curriculums have been developed under PEER for Hospital Preparedness for Emergencies (HOPE) and Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE). These courses are managed by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in Bangkok, Thailand.
