Highlights for June 2009
• After 3 months of high violent crime, June saw a significant decline in the total amount of violent crime dropping
down to 37 total victims. May’s aggravated assaults were 60 so June’s 28 aggravated assaults is a welcome relief.
The one homicide was significant (Walmart) but Lakewood officers were extremely efficient in collecting the
perpetrators.
• Property crime continues to be a success story with 46% less auto thefts and 23% less burglaries than last year.
“All Other Larceny” is 8.7% less which is almost counter intuitive to the struggling economy.
• According to the numbers given to us by LESA, “All Part One Crimes” are down by 11.8%.
• There was a spike in Bar Serious Calls For Service up to 15 from 10. The 15 still is generally lower than the trend
line for last year. The Schooner was at the top of the list followed by Bourbon Street and Champions. Maggie
O’Tooles did not appear on June’s Serious Call For Service list at all although previous months numbers have
carried over and they are the top of the year-to-date list with 15 Serious CFS.
• Lakewood Motels also spiked in terms of Serious CFS. Staying well below last year’s average of 8, there were 14
Serious CFS in June 09. The Colonial Motel stood out with 4 Serious CFS and Fort Lewis Motel had 3. The Fort
Clark was torn down and has been removed from the Crime Analysis Unit’s charts. The Rainier (formerly the
Budget Inn) Inn remains closed embroiled in a legal battle over ownership and their ability to operate as a motel.
Fort Lewis Motel leads Lakewood’s motels in Serious CFS with 8 YTD.
• Serious CFS ended the 3 month rise in Serious CFS since February 09. There was a drop in SCFS from 143 down to
113 SCFS. Laurel Garden Apartments continue to demonstrate an effort to reduce crime by not appearing in
Lakewood’s Large Apartment Top 5 list year-to-date. At the top of June and 2009 YTD was the Village at Seeley
Lake with 11 and 62 Serious CFS. Of note in June was Pacific Ridge Apartments where there were 15 Total CFS (12
from the same apartment). Overall, medium size apartments (21-80 units) saw a 12% increase in Total CFS.
