How America Changed After World War II

The economy was VERY STRONG because there were many jobs and

people wanted to buy American products.

More people cared about getting an education

and there were many court cases to make

education equal for EVERYBODY. The more

education you have, the more jobs you are

qualified for.

There were lots of babies born after the soldiers came

home from World War II. This was called the "Baby

Boom." Babies born between 1943 and 1960 are called

"Baby Boomers."

Role of Women

The role of women was changing after World War II. Men still expected her to do

work around the house and with the family, like raising kids and cleaning, while

having a job OUTSIDE of the house as well, like being a teacher, nurse, or

secretary.

African-Americans fought for more equal opportunities after World War II. We are

studying the Civil Rights Movement next.

The G.I. Bill of Rights gave EDUCATIONAL, HOUSING, and

EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS to VETERANS.
