Introduction to Cal-Quake
History :
In 1985, after identifying the need to increase the level of earthquake retrofitting to single family homes, John Taferner founded Seismic Construction Consultants.
In 1988, after three years of successfully building a firm dedicated to retrofitting single family homes, John set his sights on expanding his firm to incorporate the retrofitting of unreinforced masonry and tilt up buildings.
In 1989, Seismic Construction Consultants partnered with James K. Cross and associates. In that same year Sheldon “Shelly” Perulss joined the James K. Cross and associates team which focused on the retrofitting of unreinforced masonry and tilt up buildings.
In 1999, John and Shelly created Cal-Quake construction. Focusing only on the following earthquake retrofitting and foundation repair services: Soft story mitigation, foundation anchor bolting, foundation repair, unreinforced masonry and tilt up buildings retrofitting, hillside reinforcement (retaining walls, caissons).
In 2006, Cal-Quake recruited Joseph Goldberger to join the team. Joseph had previously worked in the earthquake retrofitting industry and brought with him several years of experience in structural construction management.
Today, Cal-Quake is a leader in the earthquake retrofitting industry. The Cal-Quake team has completed over 10,000 projects.
