DESCRIPTION
Amer-Indian tribes in the Amazone: still fascinating for scientists and attracting media. Especially when such populations seem to disappear and 'all of a sudden re-appear'. Both phenomena displayed the 'Flatheads' (Cambebas), several times through the ages. Once feared and this way nicknamed by neighbouring tribes at the upper Amazon region and the Portuguese, After being considered 'extincted' in the proces of Civilization (18th and 19th century), Cambebas showed up again and there to stay. of 'Civilisation'. This cultural anthropological study describes the ups and downs of a famous ethnonym, based on fieldwork (1984-1985) and deskresearch (1986-1988).
