Page 7: Bar camp5tweetup

So you have an idea for a TweetUp?

Page 8: Bar camp5tweetup

now what do you do?

Page 9: Bar camp5tweetup

Step # 1Before the event

Planning and promoting

Page 10: Bar camp5tweetup

Take a deep breath.. Ahhhhhh

There is a lot to do so don’t let yourself get…

Page 11: Bar camp5tweetup
Page 12: Bar camp5tweetup

Check List for a Successful TweetUp

Page 13: Bar camp5tweetup

A good Hash Tag.. eg. #roofup (a TweetUp on a roof deck)

(#brontosaurus just wont convey what you are really trying to communicate)

Page 14: Bar camp5tweetup

Choose a good location for your

event

(250 people in an Irish Bar in Southie just won’t work, no

matter how much you want it to)

Yes Gents/Gentets Size Matter’s

Theme, WiFi, Parking, Kid Friendly, Food, Security

Others?

Promote!!

Twitter is great but don’t forget EventBrite, Facebook, linkedIn, MySpace,

your blog, and everywhere else your audience spends time.

Leverage your local

Social Media Community..

Eg. @BostonTweetUp

(Yes this is shameless (however, very effective for you) self promotion)

Page 20: Bar camp5tweetup

Line up a event photographer/

Videographer (even if its you)

(If a tree falls in a forest and there are no photographs or video, can you really be sure that it happened?)

Page 21: Bar camp5tweetup

One thing to remember

Page 22: Bar camp5tweetup

Make sure to communicate, people need know what to expect.

Page 23: Bar camp5tweetup
Page 24: Bar camp5tweetup

Step # 2During the event

Hosting and Communicating

Page 25: Bar camp5tweetup

Monitor the feeling and atmosphere(encourage fun and socializing if its not organic)

In Person and online

Page 26: Bar camp5tweetup

Tweet updates and have twitter

conversations during the event

(Make sure there is wireless so your guests will do a lot of this for you,

but even if there isn’t there are always mobile twitter apps)

Page 27: Bar camp5tweetup

Provide name tags (encourage twitter handle)(Have photographer capture nametags…

Eg. twitter id because you know you won’t remember them all)

Page 28: Bar camp5tweetup

Give out prizes and/ or Giveaways(People LOVE free stuff, but it’s not a requirement for a successful TweetUp)

Page 29: Bar camp5tweetup

What a TweetUp!!!People were mingling on the roof and…

Page 30: Bar camp5tweetup

Inside the restaurant.

Page 31: Bar camp5tweetup

Great example of a TweetUp host

• Self Promote (in a unique, unobtrusive way)

• Be fun and social

Page 32: Bar camp5tweetup

Overall the RoofUp was a….

Page 33: Bar camp5tweetup

Phew…. the event is over, but don’t worry the fun is not over yet.

Page 34: Bar camp5tweetup

Phew…. the event is over, but don’t worry the fun is not over yet.

Page 35: Bar camp5tweetup

Step # 3After the event

Thanking, Documenting, and Measuring

Page 36: Bar camp5tweetup

Measuring Success

Page 37: Bar camp5tweetup

Why #RoofUp was such a great success

The goal of the TweetUp was to hold the first TweetUp on a Roof Deck in Boston, and for the host to become better known in the social media community.

Sara got what She wanted

Success depends on the goals of each individual event

Page 38: Bar camp5tweetup

But its always nice when other people like it too…

93%33%

Page 39: Bar camp5tweetup

Now its the time to:Post Pictures on Flicker (or venue of choice)

(people love pictures, especially of themselves)

Page 40: Bar camp5tweetup

Follow up with everyone via Twitterremember to look at the pics (nametags) if you forgot twitter handles

Page 41: Bar camp5tweetup

Create a blog summary post, a podcast, or anything else to let people know how much fun it was so that if they couldn’t

make it, they will come next time.(or just rub in their faces how much fun you had and that they should have been there)

Page 42: Bar camp5tweetup

The most important thing to remember when planning a TweetUp (or any other event) is……

Page 43: Bar camp5tweetup

To be yourself… no matter who that is.You will make your TweetUp yours.

If you are having fun, so will everyone else.
