Surrogacy in California: An Impossible Dream Made Possible!

Parenting is a beautiful experience but not every woman is fortunate to

conceive. This gives birth to a magical process of surrogacy that blesses

the most intended parents to transform their dreams into reality.

Surrogacy is the term used for a process in which a woman carries and delivers a child for

another couple or person. The surrogate may be the child’s genetic mother or is genetically

not related to the child. The intended parent or parents, sometimes called the social parents,

may arrange a surrogate pregnancy because of female infertility, other medical issues which

make pregnancy or delivery impossible, risky, or otherwise undesirable.

Surrogacy Scenario in the United States Surrogacy in the U.S. is quite common for all the couples seeking Green Card because their

child is eligible for birthright citizenship in the United States, and can thereby apply for Green

Cards for the parents when turning 21 years of age.

California has very good surrogacy laws, however, the California Assembly Bill 1217, facilitates

new, improved, and positive California legislation regarding surrogacy which was into effect on

January 1, 2013.

Financial Benefits for a Surrogate in California

Surrogacy is more to do with humanity than with monetary benefits still; there are surrogates

who have used their financial benefits to accomplish many impossible dreams such as putting

down payment on a dream home, starting a new business venture, etc.

The fees paid to first time surrogates eventually increase with each baby it carries and also in

addition, the intended parents pay for all the medical, legal, and psychological costs associated

with surrogacy, as well as maternity clothing, additional medical procedures, the surrogate's

lost wages, travel allowance, insurance, etc. The legal services fee is also an additional cost to

finalize the adoption process.
